It may not feel like it, but the height of summer is almost upon us. That’s right, the summer solstice, aka, the longest day of the year and the official start of the astronomical summer, falls on June 20 as the Sun enters Cancer.

Not only does the summer solstice mean traditional celebrations like festivals, feasts and bonfires, it is also expected to bring with it some astrological shifts.
Olga Ramora, founder of moon cycle app Moonly, previously explained that the summer solstice would bring a noticeable change in energy. “The twentieth of June activates the Gemini period, represented in learning, new acquaintances, teamwork, short trips, and entrepreneurial activities,” she said. “Retrograde Saturn will pay attention to discipline, bringing back repetitive events to see how much we’ve learned to act progressively and wisely.”
But according to astrologer Kirsty Gallagher, author of The Goddess Path, these changes won’t affect everyone the same way — instead, the summer solstice will affect each astrological sign a little differently.

Aries March 21 – April 19
Home is where the heart is and where your focus will be during this solstice. This is a time to go back to your roots and perhaps heal or understand your ancestral lineage or family on a deeper level. Your focus for the second half of the year is onself-careand really nurturing and nourishing yourself and giving yourself what you need and finding a deep sense of inner security.
Taurus April 20 – May 20
This solstice is going to ask you to remember the power of your voice and to begin to use it. The second half of the year is a time for communicating your truth and asking for what you want and need. Look at where your social life needs some invigorating and maybe where you can take up a hobby or an evening class and learn something new to expand your mind.
Gemini May 21 – June 20
Gemini it’s time to establish your values for the second half of the year and get clear on what really matters to you. This is wonderful time to look at your home, finances, work and where you spend the most amount of your time and energy and whether it’s serving you. Look at your levels of self-worth and remember that your worth determines what you will and won’t accept in life, know what you deserve.
Cancer June 21 – July 22
The solstice for you Cancer is about self-discovery and how you want to show up in the world for the second half of the year. This could be a time of real self-improvement and becoming your best self, almost like reintroduction yourself back out into the world. Look at what you’ve been putting off or avoiding and start to make things happen.
Leo July 23 – Aug 22
This solstice is a wonderful time for you to gain healing and closure not just on the first half of the year but with anything that you’ve been carrying with you for too long. Look at where you limit yourself and what’s possible for you and use this solstice to expand. Your focus for the second half of the year is on deepening your spiritual practices and finding that all you need is already within you.
Virgo Aug 23 – Sept 22
The summer solstice wants you to really begin to focus on your hopes and dreams for the future. As community and friendships will be a big focus for you in the second half of the year look at where you can collaborate with others or bring people people together or how you can create or offer things that will be of more service to the collective. Your energy is needed out there in the world.
Libra Sept 23 – Oct 22
Your career and ambitions will become a focus for this second half of the year. Reassess your goals for the year, let go of what’s no longer in alignment and get clear on the direction that you want to go. Put plans, structures and foundations in place which will help you to get there. Think about who you want to be in this second half of the year and work to become them.
Scorpio Oct 23 – Nov 21
This second half of the year is going to be quite an adventure for you Scorpio as you’re called to expand your horizons and begin to see the bigger picture of your life. This would be a wonderful time to study or learn something new, especially if it helps you to grow spiritually or gather some new wisdom, or to plan some travel adventures to places you’ve never been.
Sagittarius Nov 22 – Dec 21
This solstice will ask you to look at where you have given your power away in the first half of the year and ask you to reclaim it and let go of what has not been serving you. This would also be a good time to take stock of your finances, especially any debts or loans and ensure that you have the best deals and perhaps get on top of your tax returns.
Capricorn Dec 22 – Jan 19
It’s going to be all about relationships for you and as we pause and take stock with the solstice use this opportunity to look at the relationships in your life. Are they reciprocal, healthy and fulfilling or are there any conversations to be had or changes to be made? Look too at the relationship you have with yourself and how you can love yourself more in this second half of the year.
Aquarius: Jan 20 – Feb 18
What you do daily matters and this solstice is going to highlight your daily rituals and routines Aquarius. There is also going to be a big focus on your health and wellbeing in this second half of the year and so now is the time to our daily self-care practices in place. Think meditation, journaling,yoga, weight training, anything that helps you to feel your best.
Pisces Feb 19 – March 20
Pisces, this solstice wants to know what brings you happiness and joy and whether you’re giving yourself enough time for those things. As you move into the second half of the year embrace more play and fun and romance life a little. This is a wonderful time for you to believe in yourself fully and express yourself completely, moving through the world with more trust and ease.
